Cookie Policy
What cookies we use, what they do, and how to control them.
Last updated: January 15, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, how Ergo Brief uses them, and what choices you have to control them. It works alongside our Privacy Policy.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device — computer, phone, or tablet — when you visit a website. They help sites remember information about your visit, such as your preferences and certain actions you’ve taken, which makes browsing faster and more useful the next time around.
Cookies fall into a few main categories: strictly necessary, performance and analytics, functionality, and advertising or affiliate tracking. Some are set by us directly (“first-party cookies”), and some are set by third-party services we use (“third-party cookies”).
Cookies we use
1. Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are essential for the site to function — they handle things like keeping your session active and remembering basic browser preferences. The site won’t work properly without them, and they can’t be disabled through our site.
2. Analytics cookies
We use Google Analytics to understand how readers interact with our content — which guides are most useful, where visitors come from, and which articles need improvement. These cookies collect anonymized, aggregated data and do not identify individual users.
3. Affiliate tracking cookies
When you click an affiliate link on our site (such as one pointing to Amazon, ShareASale, or CJ Affiliate), the destination retailer typically sets a cookie that helps them attribute any resulting purchase back to Ergo Brief. This is what allows us to earn affiliate commissions and keep the site running. These cookies are set by the retailer, not by us, and follow their own retention policies.
4. Functionality cookies
If we add features over time — like remembering your dark mode preference or comment author details — those features may use cookies to store your settings between visits.
How to control cookies
You have full control over the cookies stored on your device. Most modern browsers let you view, manage, and delete cookies through their settings. You can typically:
- Block all cookies — note that this may break parts of the site and many others across the web.
- Block only third-party cookies — useful if you want to reduce cross-site tracking while keeping basic site functions working.
- Delete existing cookies — clears all stored cookies and signs you out of any sites where you were logged in.
- Use private or incognito browsing — most browsers won’t store cookies persistently in this mode.
For specific instructions, visit your browser’s help section: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, or Brave all publish clear guides on managing cookies.
Do Not Track signals
Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal to websites. There is no universal standard for how websites should respond to this signal, and Ergo Brief currently does not alter its behavior based on it. You can still control tracking through your browser’s cookie and privacy settings as described above.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to how we use cookies, we’ll update this page and revise the “Last updated” date. We recommend checking back occasionally if cookie practices matter to you.
